Hello all,

I’ve found a few precious moments to share with you online. It’s a rainy day, desperately required after a long dry start to Spring and we have just had a great delivery of fresh books come in the door. The new Ottolenghi is mouth-watering and I know new fiction from established writers including Richard Flanagan, Jennifer Egan, Jesmyn Ward and Minette Walters has been eagerly anticipated. I’ve been reading some great debut fiction, including a brilliant little morsel byMad Men writer and Director Matthew Weiner. Heather, The Totality is due in store any day and I’m so excited to share this taut and disturbing little book with you all. Another great debut from Fiona Mozley with her Man Booker shortlisted Elmet.

lincoln bardoOf course the highlight this week has been the announcement of Man Booker Winner Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. I read this earlier in the year and loved it’s intensity and approach to American history. The shortlist has some fantastic surprises too, including aforementioned Elmet and Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West. The great benefit of these awards is the exposure they give to otherwise quiet releases.

We are looking forward to welcoming two authors in the coming weeks. Lizzy Williamson is an Avalon girl and a great inspirational to all Mothers. Her story of overcoming Post Natal Depresson through easy and simple exercise shows how much can be achieved by lizzietaking many small steps. Vibrant and overflowing with positive vibes, Lizzy will share some of her signature moves (+wine bottles) and we will all enjoy a few nibbles from recipes featured in her book.

We have just SOLD OUT of tickets to Holly Davis’s 3 course Spring supper with ferments, an exclusive showcase of Holly’s unique and masterful cooking. To be held at Moby’s at the end of the month, we are so excited to step out of the box and to partner with local talent.

We are also very pleased to be supporting Avalon Bowling Club in November for an eveninig of surfing lore with Phil Jarratt and Simon Anderson and live music from the Red Herrings. We will have copies of Phil’s new book ‘Life of Brine’ for sale and I think they have guaranteed the laughs.

As always we are available to help you find a book you love, or lost, or gave away. Call us on (02) 9973 1244 or email hello@bookoccino.com.au
